Hope and Change

Have you seen this ad promoting Barack Obama as the agent of hope and change?

How about this one?

Don't you just love young people raising their voices in unison to sing the praises of a great leader?

Modern Art

I've never been a connoisseur of modern art, but this piece speaks to me.

Its elegant naïveté tantalizes one with a myriad of interpretive possibilities. Blurred flesh tones symbolize human passions, often torrid yet unfocused. Ethereal light (as if from crystalline heaven) and darkness (as if from the infernal pit), each competing for the viewer's attention, are ironically inverted -- the light rising from the nether world and darkness descending from on high. More subtly, the light-darkness motif plays out on the horizontal plane -- perhaps as an homage to the political struggle that grips us these days -- the Right appropriately portrayed as the "dark side" (a.k.a., the Sith Lord "Darth Cheney").

You are no doubt pondering what genius mind conceived this objet d'art. Therein is the ultimate irony. The photographer is a mere child, a prodigy not yet 21 months old.

Thanks Gurl!

SuperGurl links to Dave Ramsey's column and suggests that everyone do the same. The article is worth reading and then it's worth passing on -- who knows maybe someone in Congress will realize there's no need to burden tax payers with these defaulted mortgages.

Amazing Facts

It's astounding what one can learn from Joe Biden. For instance, I had no idea that Franklin Roosevelt went on television on October 29, 1929 to calm the country's fears in the wake of the great stock market crash. It's a shame President Hoover didn't think to do that, but then (unlike FDR) he'd probably never even heard of TV.

Deafening Silence

NewsBusters picked up on this story, which all the mainstream media outlets have somehow missed.

So how how is it possible for Barack Obama to get away with accusing John McCain of being in the pocket of lobbyists when he himself is Congress's #2 benefactor of Fannie Mae's "gifts", paid to prevent Congressional investigation into its accounting discrepancies three years ago? Where are all the hard-nosed journalists asking Senator Obama the hard questions about his role in blocking the investigation that could have uncovered corruption and mismanagement at Fannie Mae long before the meltdown of the entire mortgage industry?

On Second Thought ...

I'm sure everyone remembers the attack ads of Swiftboat Veterans for Truth four years ago:

Those ads sure convinced me to vote against John Kerry.

And by now you're probably aware that I've been a huge supporter of Sarah Palin, but now I'm seriously questioning my position. Just as the Swiftboaters shed light on John Kerry's anti-war activities, it appears Sarah Palin has a past that bears more scrutiny:

ABC News Biased? Nah!

Were any of you confused how chopped Charlie Gibson's interview with Sarah Palin seemed? There's a reason for that. It seems NBC ABC News felt the need to edit the interview so as to remove the core of Sarah Palin's responses and in a way that made it appear she was answering different questions than the ones she was actually asked. Below is a section of the unedited transcript with Sarah Palin's excised words in italics.

GIBSON: The Bush doctrine, as I understand it, is that we have the right of anticipatory self-defense, that we have the right to a preemptive strike against any other country that we think is going to attack us. Do you agree with that?

PALIN: I agree that a president’s job, when they swear in their oath to uphold our Constitution, their top priority is to defend the United States of America.

I know that John McCain will do that and I, as his vice president, families we are blessed with that vote of the American people and are elected to serve and are sworn in on January 20, that will be our top priority is to defend the American people.

GIBSON: Do we have a right to anticipatory self-defense? Do we have a right to make a preemptive strike again another country if we feel that country might strike us?

PALIN: Charlie, if there is legitimate and enough intelligence that tells us that a strike is imminent against American people, we have every right to defend our country. In fact, the president has the obligation, the duty to defend.

Baruch hab-ba bashem Adonai

I'm sure you've all heard that Politico.com reported on the founder of Jews for Jesus' speech at Sarah Palin's church:
"Brickner also described terrorist attacks on Israelis as God's 'judgment of unbelief' of Jews who haven't embraced Christianity."

NBC's coverage of the Republican National Convention even featured leftist pundit Rachel Maddow citing this as fact:
Maddow: Jews for Jesus founder [was] speaking at her church while she was there two weeks ago making incredibly, incredibly out of line comments about Israel and Jewish people. Saying that's why Israel was subject to terrorist attacks. It was God's judgment for not believing in Christ.
Matthews: What's the source?
Maddow: Politico.com

It's a sad state of affairs when the mainstream media feels no obligation to confirm their facts or to correct their erroneous reports. Of course, NBC News (as CBS News did four years ago when it used fraudulent documents to attack President Bush) is in deep denial about its once again being suckered by the lunatic left. Of course, the media's defense is simply to claim that they're reporting what people think. It matters not what David Brickner actually said during that sermon, it matters only what some leftists think he meant.

I've just finished listening to David Brickner's complete message ("The Jerusalem Dilemma") from that Sunday morning (August 17th, 2008) service at Wasilla Bible Church, and unsurprisingly I've found that he did not say what Politico.com has reported.

It may come as a surprise to Politico.com (and its accomplices/dupes in the media), but a letter from the insurance company reminding a homeowner to renew his policy is not a threat to torch his house -- and David Brickner's message praising Jesus as the only hope for Israel and all mankind did not call for God to smite His Chosen People.

If you'd like to check this out for yourself, here's the complete transcript of David Brickner's message to Wasilla Bible Church.

David Brickner's own commentary on this malicious attack can be found here.

Word Recognition

I don't post very many stories about our 20-month-old granddaughter. There are a couple of reasons for that. First, the preciously little girl lives nearly a thousand miles away, so we miss out on a lot of the cute things she does. And second, I'm never quite sure how much exposure our oldest son Andy and his dear wife want. But this story is just too cute not to share.

We were visiting with Andy on the phone the other day and he reported, "Abby's learned to say 'Uncle Tim' -- well, the 'Tim' part anyway." {Tim is Andy's brother-in-law.}

We replied, "Then you need to teach her 'Uncle James' and 'Uncle Ben'."

Andy came back, "We've tried to teach her 'Ben', but she recognizes the word and finishes it for us."

I was stumped, "What do you mean?"

"Whenever we say 'Ben', she says 'nanna'."

Silly me, "Oh of course -- good old 'Uncle Ben-nanna'!"

Answers to Those Predictable Media Questions...

Washington Post Reporter: Governor Palin, how can you be a mother to a special-needs child and still do your job as vice president?

Governor Palin: How can you be a special-needs child and still do your job as a reporter?

CNN Reporter: Ms Palin, have you ever spoken in tongues?

Governor Palin: Some people say I sound Minnesotan, but that's not exactly the same thing as a foreign tongue.

Boston Globe Reporter: Governor Palin, are you on a mission from God?

Governor Palin: I try. Whose mission are you on?

LA Times Reporter: Sarah, could your daughter Bristol have benefited from sex education classes?

Governor Palin: I doubt it -- classroom training is overrated. Journalism school obviously did you no good.

CBS News Reporter: Do you actually believe the world was created in six literal days?

Governor Palin: Do you actually believe your question has anything to do the qualifications for the vice presidency?

ABC News Reporter: Didn't you violate operational security by giving away the date of your son's deployment to Iraq?

Governor Palin: The U.S. warned the Japanese before dropping the bomb on Hiroshima, so I figured it was only fair for me to caution al Qaeda before unleashing the ultimate weapon.

NY Times Reporter: Governor Palin, in your church do you handle snakes?

Governor Palin: "Do I handle snakes?" you ask. Welllll ... you tell me, how am I doing at handling the press?

Is Palin a True Blue Supporter of Israel?

Look what I noticed my sharp-eyed beautiful wife noticed while checking out this video that was intended to smear Sarah Palin. The video purports to show that Governor Palin was obviously "not" pregnant when she was "supposedly" five months along. But while I was watching while Joyce was watching the interview in the governor's office (around minute seven of the video), I spotted this she spotted this.

How many flags do you see? Let's see, there's the Alaska State flag immediately behind the governor, and then there's that Blue-Star-Mother flag in the window. But what's that itty bitty flag in the corner of the window?
