Mene, Mene, Tekel, Upharsin

I blog because I enjoy my own writing a little more than I should. But today I'm sharing something I'd rather not even think about much less write about. Over at Gateway Pundit there's a two-part post that exposes the reading list that President Obama's Safe Schools Czar Kevin Jennings recommends. The list is divided into three main categories: books recommended for grades K-6; books recommended for grades 7-12; and books for teachers. The books on the list span all genres: fiction, nonfiction, memoirs, even poetry.

If the Lord doesn't utterly wipe America off the map for our complacency and complicity in this, He owes a huge apology to Sodom and Gomorrah.

Both of my oldest daughters joined the gay straight alliance club at their high school. They are both straight, but wanted a better understanding of how their gay peers felt.

I have no issues at all with introducing tasteful books about the topic - from the emotional and social impact on these kids - to other students. However, if these books contain near pornographic descriptions, as stated when I clicked thru, then I would not approve of them, just as I would not approve of such descriptions of straight sex in required reading material.

I would be pleased if the twins, who are 11, had a better understanding of what it is like to be gay and a social target - it would certainly help them develop more compassion. (Can you tell I believe being gay is not a choice?) But I'd blow my top if they read about the act. That is not something any school should introduce.

I agree with you that people don't choose to be homosexual, but I would add "just as people don't choose to be Jewish." (No, I'm not positing a moral equivalence between homosexuality and Judaism. To the contrary, I would argue [amid protests from many Reform Rabbis] that behaving as the Law given to Moses prescribes actually precludes behaving as a homosexual.)

My point is simply that I believe there must be a genetic component to homosexuality. But if it were purely genetics, homosexuality would have died out eons ago.

However, unlike you, I can't twist my thinking to the point of concluding (from my belief that some people have a predilection for misconduct) that homosexual misconduct doesn't harm those who engage in it.
